How to Type Special Characters in Microsoft Word

Special characters in include the copyright symbol, the restricted copyright symbol and the trademark symbol. There are a couple of ways you can type in special characters into your Word document. In this tutorial I show you how to type in all three without any special fonts or hotkeys.

Here is how you type in the copyright, restricted copyright and trademark symbols into Microsoft Word with just a few simple keystrokes.

Things You'll Need:

• Microsoft Word

1. The first step is to launch Microsoft Word. You can either open an existing document if you have one that needs these symbols put in there, or you can just start a new document if you want to just try it out.

2. 

   In order to create the copyright symbol, type in: (c)
   That is open parenthesis, followed by the small letter c, followed by a close parenthesis. If you find that on a new document it is not automatically changing for you hit the enter key once then type in the characters in this step. Your doc should look like the picture.

3. 

   In order to type in the restricted copyright symbol and the trademark symbol use the following:
   restricted copyright type in: (r)
   trademark type in: (tm)
   
   You should see the symbols as shown in the picture associated with this step.
