Over time wile using your computer, you may notice things are starting to slow down. Then next thing you know it now takes 10 min to start up your computer or open any files. One of the problems could be that you need to defrag your hard drive. Follow this article to make sure your files nice and organized.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Step one to defrag your hard drives.
    Close Down your computer and reboot it in safe mode if possible. Doing so will not run many features of the operating system and keep the disk's usage down wile the defrag takes place.

  2. Step 2

    If using Windows XP. Open the Dos prompt and type in "dfrg.msc"
    This will open up the defrag program. This shows you a window of your drives.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the drive you would like to defrag "usually C:".
    Then toward the bottom of the window click on analyze. Let it do its thing until it done. Now click on Defragment. The total time of the defrag will depend on the size of your drive's and the amount of defragmenting needed. Regardless do it at night or when you wont be using the computer for a hour to half a day.
