Having a clean carburetor is essential to a car or motorcyle engine running properly. If the carburetor is dirty it can affect engine performance. This article will provide a brief description on cleaning out a carburetors, especially the jets.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tools(Wrench, Screwdriver) depends on your car
  • Solvent
  • Compressed Air
  1. Step 1

    The first thing to do is to remove the carburetor from the engine. Follow your car's instruction manual on how to properly remove the carburetor from the vehicle. After it has been removed, it is time to clean the carburetor with a solvent. You can buy these solvents at any automotive repair store, and usually there are tools you can buy that will help also.

  2. Step 2

    After you have cleaned the carburetor with the solvent it is time to disassemble the carburetor and clear the ports and jets. Again follow your vehicles manual for proper disassembly and reassembly.

  3. Step 3

    Once the carburetor has been disassembled, clear the ports and jets with compressed air. Once this has been completed, reassemble the carburetor and re-install it into the vehicle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to buy the proper equipment from an automotive store
  • Ask the people at the store for advice if necessary
  • Do not use wires or machinery to clean the carburetor. The carburetor is specifically calibrated and the use of such machines can lead to a malfunction
