The Origami Blintz Base
The Origami Blintz Base

The origami blintz base, also known as the cushion fold, is a simple set of folds used as a preliminary to folding more complicated shapes. The blintz base is often used as a place to start folding box or flower shapes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Square Origami Paper
  1. Step 1

Start your origami blintz base with a square sheet of origami paper, colored side down, white side up.

  2. Step 2

Fold the paper in half on the diagonal, from left to right. Run your thumb or finger along the fold to crease it.

  3. Step 3

Open the folded paper back up again.

  4. Step 4

Fold the paper in half diagonally, this time from bottom to top. Crease this new fold.

  5. Step 5

Open the folded paper back up again. Note the "plus sign" pattern of the creases you made, and how they cross in the very middle of the paper.

  6. Step 6

Fold the bottom point of the paper in to the very middle, where the creases meet. Crease. This time, don't unfold.

  7. Step 7

Bring the top point down to the middle, where it should meet the bottom point. Fold and crease.

  8. Step 8

Fold the left corner in, too, and crease the new fold.

  9. Step 9

Fold the right corner in to the middle and crease. You've just completed an origami blintz base.
