An Origami Kite Base
An Origami Kite Base

The origami kite base is a preliminary step toward making other origami shapes. These basic folds are an especially popular start for making some bird and animal forms.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Origami paper
  1. Step 1

Start your origami kite base with a sheet of square origami paper, colored side facing down, white side up.

  2. Step 2

Fold the sheet of paper in half diagonally from left to right. Run your thumb over the fold to crease it.

  3. Step 3

Open the folded paper back up again.

  4. Step 4

Fold the upper left edge of the paper down to the crease you made and crease the new fold with your thumb as before. Lifting the opposite side of the paper as you do this (see photo) makes it easier to line the edge up with the original crease exactly.

  5. Step 5

Bring the upper right edge in to the middle crease as well. Run your thumb along the new fold to crease it. You've just completed an origami kite base.

Tips & Warnings
  • While you can fold origami shapes with any square paper, origami paper is by far the easiest type of paper to fold and crease.
