Things You'll Need:
- Pineapple
- Vigilance
-
Step 1
If you have a dog that eats feces - whether it's his own or that of another dog - you must keep a close eye on your dog. Dogs are naturally curious and will sniff poop. Puppies especially will find this smell intriguing. Try to divert the attention of the puppy to something more interesting. Immediately bring out a dog toy or dog treat to help distract him.
-
Step 2
Be sure to pick up the area in which your dog poops frequently. In many cases, this is the family backyard. Clean up the area multiple times per week. If the poop is out of site, the poop will be out of mind!
-
Step 3
Add a small amount of pineapple to your dogs meal. Some dogs don't like the taste of pineapple, but many dogs like the fruit's sweetness. When the fruit passes through the dog's intestines it alter the taste, so the dog will not like the taste of poop with pineapple. Hopefully after sniffing this a few times, your dog or puppy will avoid poop all-together!

on 8/15/2009 Nice article. My shih tzu Courtney used to eat it all the time, not so much anymore, however. But this is a creative and informative article.
