How to Prevent a Dog From Eating Poop
Most dogs, at some point in their lives, will try and will successively eat their own or another animal's poop. This is actually quite natural in dogs, but since it can cause an upset stomach, it should be avoided as much as possible.

Keep a close eye on your dog. Dogs are naturally curious and will sniff poop. Puppies especially will find this smell intriguing. Try to divert the attention of the puppy to something more interesting. Immediately bring out a dog toy or treat to help distract him.

Be sure to pick up the area where your dog poops frequently. In many cases, this is the family backyard. Clean up the area multiple times per week. If the poop is out of sight, the poop will be out of mind.

Add a small amount of pineapple to your dogs meal. Some dogs don't like the taste of pineapple, but others like the fruit's sweetness. When the fruit passes through the dog's intestines, the taste is altered, and the dog will not like the taste of poop with pineapple. You can also try feeding your dog small amounts of garlic to make the odor of feces less appealing. Hopefully after sniffing this a few times, your dog or puppy will avoid poop altogether.

Tips & Warnings
Don't give up. Many dogs will eat their own feces several times before they respond to you.
If feeding pineapple to your dog, only administer in small amounts as it can be acidic.

My dog is 15 months old and we have tried everything. I tried the pineapple, meat tenderizer, we tried some tablets from Petco, we just went through the 2nd package of For-Bid from the vet. Our vet has checked his liver and his enzymes are high but his blood cells are fine. Sonny is very sneaky when he does this. We try to keep an eye on him, we take him out often, but it never fails, it's like he is purposely holding it for that one second that we don't see him and all of the sudden ya smell it and you catch him but he's already 1/2 way done eating it. We are just now to the point of Punishment, but we don't want to do that. I have had him in obedience classes and even talked to the instructor, he's the one that suggested the pineapple. Getting very frustrated.
