How to Stop The Whining

Has your toddler turned into a whiner? Does it drive you crazy that he has a decent vocabulary but still resorts to whining to get what he wants? Read below for 5 tips on how to stop the whining.

Instructions

    • 1

Explore why your child is whining. He may not feel good, may be tired, hungry or even frustrated. Identifying the problem may help alleviate the whining.

    • 2

Teach your child early on what whining is. When he starts whining be firm and remind him to "use his big boy voice." Do not give in to what they want until they use the appropriate words and tone.

    • 3

Use positive reinforcements and reward good behavior. Explain to your child, if he goes all day without whining you will serve his favorite dessert for dinner or taken him to the park the following day.

    • 4

If the whining is persistent, use a time out corner or chair. Get down on his level and explain to him that you are giving him time to settle down and form his words correctly.

    • 5

Be patient and let him know that you love him no matter what. Remember everyone has a bad day (or week) every now and then.
