Freshly harvested young Brussels sprouts have a tender texture and nutty sweetness. Home grown sprouts hold well on the stalk and with plant care, these garden plants will become sweeter and less harsh to the taste when eating.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Sow plant seeds indoors in individual compartments in a seed flat or pot. this will help the plants have a good start with growing. Brussels sprouts like plenty of space as they mature, but as young seedlings they are happy growing close together.

Brussels sprouts will now grow best in rich, moist, cool soil, that has plenty of well-rotted compost or manure dug into it.

Plant Brussels sprouts 24 inches apart, so they will have plenty of room while growing. They need plenty of light and air to keep them healthy.

Mulch around the plants during warmer weather will keep the roots cool.
