Explains step by step on how to tighten up a bicycle chain.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Bicycles are fun to ride in the warm weather. They are a form of exersize and transportation, they keep kids entertained and they do need repair. The chain is 1 of the most important parts of your bike.Without the chain you can't ride your bike.

  2. Step 2

When kids ride their bikes, the chain on your kids bikes will most likely need to be tightened up a little more, because kids ride their bikes more often and the chain will in time loosen up and or wear faster.Below is a way to tighten up a bicycle chain.

  3. Step 3

The chain is connected to a sprocket which is connected to the rear wheel.which are connected to a bearing assembly and bolts.there are 2 nuts connected and tightened up to keep the chain tight and so the chain and rear wheel do not fall off.

  4. Step 4

Here is how to tighten a bicycle chain.First you flip the bike over so the seat and handle bars are holding the bike up on the ground. The 2 nuts holding the rear wheel on need to be loosened, not taken off.The tools to use are a wrench and a long bar.The wrench is to loosen the nuts and the bar is to use as a leverage device to hold the rear wheel in place,to tighten the chain and retighten the nuts.

  5. Step 5

When loosening the nuts, the nut on the right side you put the wrench on the nut and pull back towards you to loosen. The nut on the left you put the wrench on the nut and push forward to loosen. When the nuts are loosened, get the pry bar and put the pry bar between the bike frame and the front of the wheel and push the top of the prybar back slowly. The rear wheel will move back allitle and now you will see the chain tighten up and hold the wheel in the center.Keep the pry bar towards you and retighten the nuts.To tighten them, the nut on the right side you push forward with the wrench on until tightened and the nut on the left side with the wrench on you pull towards you to tighten.
