Get rid of fleas with Pine Sol

Fleas are not only annoying pests, they are fast multipliers. A few stray fleas in your home can quickly turn into dozens, hundreds, and then thousands. Treating your home with flea poison bombs can be effective, but it can also be harmful to humans and pets, as they contain toxic chemicals. Instead, treat your home and get rid of fleas in your home by using Pine Sol, which is safe for family and pets in the home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Mix a large bucket of warm water and Pine Sol, at a ratio of 1/2 cup of Pine Sol to one gallon of water. Swish to mix well. Toss your rag or sponge into the bucket.

  2. Step 2

Fill a large spray bottle with warm water, and add 1/4 cup of Pine Sol to the bottle. Shake to mix well.

  3. Step 3

Use the spray bottle to spray the exterior doors and windows of your home. Pay particular attention to the threshold of doors, where the door meets the floor. Not only does Pine Sol kill fleas on contact, but they also dislike the smell of Pine Sol, so spraying your windows and doors will keep new fleas from coming in.

  4. Step 4

Get a rag out of one of the buckets and wipe down all interior window sills and bed frames. Wipe down base boards.

  5. Step 5

Use the remaining water in the bucket as mop water. Carefully mop all hard floors with the Pine Sol mix to get rid of and kill fleas and their eggs that might be on the hard floors. Pay particular attention to areas under beds, chairs, and sofas. Fleas like to hide in plush furniture, but the smell of the Pine Sol will force them out.

  6. Step 6

Treat carpet with a carpet shampooer. If you don't have one, you can rent one at most major super markets. To treat the carpet with Pine Sol to get rid of fleas, mix 1/4 cup of Pine Sol to the rinse water.

  7. Step 7

Mix a ratio of one part Pine Sol to sixteen parts water in the bath tub to bathe large dogs. If you have cats, small breed dogs, or sickly dogs, do not use this method. This should only be used on very healthy, strong, large breed dogs. Put the dog in the tub and use a disposable cup to scoop up some of the Pine Sol and water mixture to pour over the dog. Dead fleas will start falling off.

on 7/13/2009 @teresa0318 Original scent Pine Sol is the one that says, "Original scent" on the bottle. It smells of pine. Their newer scents include lavender and something like rain....
