How to Buy Youth Soccer Training Jerseys

Children can wear whatever tops they want for practice. From their point of view, shirt colors, logos and messages are often priorities. But your goal should be to find jerseys made of materials that will keep your child comfortable.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose polyester-based jerseys. These are lighter and wick away moisture. Cotton T-shirts are popular, but in the heat, especially if your child perspires a lot or gets wet, they can be heavy and uncomfortable.

  2. Step 2

Know your spending limits. As with other pieces of sports clothing, the more high-tech the fabric, the better the function and the higher the cost.

  3. Step 3

Take care of team or game jerseys. Team uniforms come with jerseys, usually monogrammed and in traditional colors (red, royal or navy blue, black, maroon). They require special care to maintain.

  4. Step 4

Pay close attention to the washing instructions for these jerseys, especially because of the custom printing for names, numbers and logos.

  5. Step 5

Turn the jerseys inside out to help preserve their printing, and wash them in cold water.

  6. Step 6

Hang-dry jerseys. It is best not to put them in the dryer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy from a sports specialty store with knowledgeable salespeople.
  • Stick with a brand that works. Once you have found success with a style, you might want to stay with it.
  • Experiment in practice before wearing new jerseys, or other clothing, in a game.
  • Measure before using mail-order. If possible, try on a size and style in a store first before ordering by mail.
  • Ask for help. A catalog salesperson can give you guidelines and recommendations.
  • Make special requests for sizing. Soccer team clothing is ordered in bulk, and in sizes to accommodate players of widely varying age groups. If your size "small" is really an extra small, be sure to make this understood.
