Traveling through Europe can be done on a budget, especially if you qualify for youth or senior discounts. Even if you do not, you can look for accommodations other than hotels to help save money on your travels. Europe has a comprehensive train system that can help you get around for less. There are even programs that pay for your room and board in exchange for volunteering your labor or simply speaking English.

      Stay in a tent or caravan instead of an hotel or a hostel. Camping around Europe is an excellent alternative to expensive hotel rooms, and there are many beautiful camp grounds to choose from. Take your camping equipment with you, or rent it from the grounds. You can rent caravans in some countries, which provide more shelter from the elements.

      Stay in a youth hostel. Group boarding is not for everyone, but you will save a lot of money. If you are a student or a youth, this is an affordable way to travel around Europe.

      Trade your labor for room and board. You can volunteer on projects related to your interests in exchange for accommodation with a local host family. You could also consider working as an au pair or nanny. You will be boarded with the family you are working for, get paid and sometimes be enrolled in a language school to improve your facility with the country's tongue.

      Swap your home for one in Europe. There are many networks dedicated to housing swaps. Simply choose the country you wish to travel to, and trade your house for one in that area.

      Take the train. Purchase a Eurail pass and travel around Europe cheaply. If you qualify for senior or youth discounts, this can be a very affordable way to travel.

      Speak English. There are programs in some European countries that will pay for your room and board in exchange for your time and language skills. Spend time in conversation with locals who want to learn English, and your accommodation is taken care of.
