Step 1
Give every family room activity an area. Each activity should have a space designated for it. Reading can be contained to a basket or table as well as playing games, paying bills, playing with toys or working on the computer.

Step 2
Look for extra spaces that can be used for storage. You might have some space behind a couch or loveseat that is angled in the room. That’s a perfect space for pillows and blankets. Baskets and bins can be placed next to or behind many pieces of furniture to contain the different activities that your family members do in this room.

Step 3
Keep the entertainment clutter confined. Allow yourself a certain amount of space for movies, games, and reading material. When you find that area overflowing into other areas, either move some of the clutter into another room or eliminate what you are not using anymore.
You don’t have to spend a great deal of time to organize your family room. If you keep an eye on the areas in this room and deal with the overflow when you see it, you will be surprised at how easily this space stays in order.
