Because you use the dishwasher to clean your dishes and utensils, you might not think much about cleaning the dishwasher. If a dishwasher isn't cleaned regularly, however, mold can begin to grow inside it. If you find mold in the appliance, you'll need to remove it and then take steps so that it doesn't return. Things You'll Need

  • Gloves
  • Bleach
  • Scrub brush
  • Spray bottle
  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Dish-washing soap

      Put on safety gloves. Add 1 tbsp. of bleach to your dishwasher's soap dispenser, but only if the dishwasher is not stainless steel. Run a regular cleaning cycle. Repeat the process if signs of mold remain.

      Mix some soap and water and use it to remove as much of the mold as possible with a scrub brush, if you're not using bleach.

      Fill a spray bottle with a solution of half water and half distilled white vinegar.

      Spray the solution directly onto the spots of mold inside your dishwasher.

      Allow the solution to sit for about five minutes.

      Use the scrub brush to remove the mold from the dishwasher. You may have to scrub hard to get all the mold off. Reapply the vinegar water solution as needed to remove the mold.

      Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the dishwasher one time a week when you run it to keep the dishwasher clean. This will prevent the mold from returning.
