Step 1
Add something to relax with sound. The market is flooded with music recordings promising to help people relax. Some are nothing more than droning synthesizer, but some, such as Effortless Relaxation by Steven Halpern (see Resources) have been proven over time to induce healing with beautiful music. Many general grocery and department stores also offer relaxation CDs that let you listen to them first before purchasing. Choose one or two for this relaxation gift basket.

Step 2
Add something to relax with scent and visual. Certain essential oils along with candlelight have also been shown to induce relaxation in a very pleasant way, so combine them into one with a candle infused with the essential oils of either lavender, frankincense, or bergamot. There are other lesser known essential oils known for relaxation which might be noted on candles when you’re shopping, or you might also find candles made with specific essential oil blends meant for relaxation. Make sure the fragrances are true essential oils – as synthetic fragrance oils don’t have the same relaxation abilities. Try to find either a soy, palm wax or beeswax candle with a lead-free wick to make sure petro chemicals and lead aren’t released into the air. Choose one to three choices to add to this relaxation gift basket.

Step 3
Add something to relax with taste. Three quick and easy possibilities for a warm, pleasant tasting drink known to cause relaxation include Sleepy Time herbal tea from Celestial Seasonings, any good chamomile tea – preferably organic, and/or Peter Gillham’s Natural Vitality Calm, which is a magnesium drink that comes in various citrus flavors and is poured into hot water for a fizzy cup claimed to relieve anxiety. It comes in packets or larger bulk containers. Choose either boxes of tea or a container of the Vitality Calm, or purchase them as individual tea bags or packets and wrap them in colored tissue paper tied with a ribbon.

Step 4
Add something to relax with touch. Simple inexpensive hand-held massagers help us relax in two ways. First, when something other than our own hand touches the massaged area, we can feel it more intensely (if we simply use our own fingers – our minds share the feeling with the fingers and the area being massaged, so it can cut the good feeling in half). Second, just having a device sitting by our chair in site reminds us to massage ourselves. A fun and unique inexpensive one is a hand-held scalp relaxation massager (see Resources), but department stores also have fun and simple hand-held devices. Some are made of natural wood, some take batteries for vibration.
