The seals on front load washing machines are notoriously flaky. They come unsealed frequently and need to be replaced. Here is how you do that.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sealant
  • Replacement Seal
  • Lubricant
  1. Step 1

Unplug the washing machine or disconnect the power to the outlet it is running on. Electrical shocks are a real risk whenever you are fixing an appliance.

  2. Step 2

Remove the old seal if one is already in place. Clean the area thoroughly with an industrial degreaser. Be methodical, make sure that every last piece of rubber and sealant from the old seal are thoroughly removed. When done, double check and clean again.

  3. Step 3

Apply the new seal. Carefully fit it into the grooves of the washing machine. Make sure that no one piece is sticking out.

  4. Step 4

Apply the sealent evenly and neatly. Let dry.

  5. Step 5

Wait 24 to 48 hours. Run a test load of laundry to ensure that the seal worked.

  6. Step 6

Run laundry as normal. Don't mix your light colors and dark colors though!

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful not to get any sealent on your hands. It is toxic.
