How to Show Appreciation During National Nurses Week
National Nurses Week takes place each May. It begins on May 6 and lasts through May 12, which also marks the birthday of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale. Nurses often work long hours under stressful conditions to save lives, help the sick heal and assist doctors in providing care. They work in places such as hospitals, doctor's offices and schools. The recipients of your appreciation, whether a particular nurse or an entire team, will undoubtedly appreciate your efforts during National Nurses Week.

1
Write a nurse a letter or send her a card. Tell her how much you appreciate her hard work.
-
2
Write a letter to your local newspaper's editor, alerting the public that it's National Nurses Week. In the letter, write about what nurses mean to you and why they're important.
-
-
3
Buy a nurse a gift. She may appreciate a gift certificate for a nice dinner, a new pair of scrubs or a tote bag imprinted with a nursing-related message.
-
4
Ask your town's council to pass a resolution that recognizes National Nurses Week. To do this, call the town's administrative office about a month in advance and ask how to get the topic on the council's agenda. Each town has a different method to submit topics of discussion.
-
5
Bake cookies for local nurses. Wrap them up in colored cellophane and tie the package with a decorative bow.
-
6
Buy nurses at your local hospital lunch. Nurses sometimes don't find time to eat during their busy days, so they may appreciate sandwiches or another quick, easy food. Buy the food in advance, and arrange with hospital staff to place it in the break room.
