Step 1
Use a clear, over-the-door shoe organizer for planting! If you do not already have one, purchase a clear, over-the-door, vinyl or plastic shoe organizer that has pockets. You can buy one of these organizers new for around $10, or if you are fortunate enough to find one at a yard sale or thrift store, you can probably pick one up for a few dollars.
-
Step 2
Hang the shoe organizer where you intend to leave it. These look great hanging on a fence, on the side of the house, and on porch columns. Consider the types of flowers you will be planting in it and plan accordingly for the right amount of sunlight or shade. You can use nails or screws across the top to hang it securely. Remember that once you add potting soil and flowers to the organizer, the weight will change significantly so be sure to anchor it well.
-
Step 3
Fill each of the compartments about 2/3 full with your favorite potting soil, leaving enough room for the plants to be inserted.
-
Step 4
Place one plant or flower into the center of each individual compartment. Add more potting soil to completely cover the roots of the plant. Do not fill completely full with the potting soil, as you need a little bit of room for watering.
-
Step 5
Water each plant so the soil is moist, but not overly wet. Continue to water as needed and watch the flowers turn this ordinary shoe organizer into a beautiful display of flowers and foliage.
