Limewire is a program that allows the downloading and sharing of music, videos, pictures and programs over a vast network. If you have tried to download this program at school, you may have been blocked by a web filter used to restrict the download and use of this file-sharing program. By learning how to bypass those web filters, through installing and running a proxy-avoidance program step by step, you can once again have access to the latest in music, video and picture downloads.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Installing and Running Limewire

  1. Step 1

Choose a proxy-avoidance program. A good one to use is sureproxy.com (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

Scroll down on the sureproxy.com web page then type in the web address for Limewire (see Resources) under the orange highlighted "Proxy" title. Click on the "browse" icon. You will be directed to Limewire's home page.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Download LimeWire" link, then click on the link that supports your operating system under the "Choose Your Platform" title. Click "run," then follow the download and installation instructions. Your Limewire icon should appear on your desktop when the installation is complete.

  4. Step 4

Double-click the green "Limewire" icon on your desktop to open your file sharing program. Type in the music, video or picture files you want to download and search.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are many proxy-avoidance websites besides sureproxy. com. Perform a search and find the one that has not been blocked by the school's web-filtering service.
  • You risk getting into trouble at school by installing and running Limewire on your school computers.
