How to avoid going broke at Rutgers University. Save yourself money and headaches with these easy steps

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Don't buy your textbooks from the bookstores. There are much less expensive ways to buy the textbooks you need then through Rutgers bookstores. You can instead buy used books online. Usually these books are more than 50% cheaper than the books at the bookstore, which can save you over $200 a semester. My favorite site is www.theuniversitymarket.com . It's a site just for Rutgers students, and it allows you to buy used books directly from other Rutgers students. Just contact a seller through the information posted on the site (usually an email address) and let them know you want to buy the book. Then arrange a time and place to meet on campus. It's cheap, quick, and easy.

  2. Step 2

Sell the books you no longer need. Selling your used textbooks can earn you over $200 a semester if you do it right. Don't sell your books back to the bookstore. They pay very little. Instead, use www.theuniversitymarket.com again. It's free to sign-up, and it only costs 99 cents to list your book on the site. You can get double what the bookstore would pay you for a book.

  3. Step 3

Use your meal plan. If you've bought an expensive meal plan, use it. Don't eat out a lot, you'll burn through your wallet before you realize it. Rutgers doesn't pay you back for any meals you don't use, so make the most of what you payed for, even the food is sometimes not that good.
