Resveratrol pills are at the forefront of the latest news on anti-aging supplements. Resveratrol is thought to help fight cancer, lower blood sugar, fight heart disease and be an anti inflammatory agent. It is also suspected to play a role in longevity. Resveratrol occurs naturally in red grapes, grape juice and red wine. However, the amounts you can get from these sources are not thought to be enough. If you take resveratrol supplements you will be getting the equivalent of 1000 glasses of wine. Even Dr. Oz of Oprah fame has come out in favor of using resveratrol pills for their anti-aging properties.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find resveratrol pills that have an enteric coating. That is just a fancy word for a coating to protect the active ingredient from the acids in your stomach. Stomach acids convert it to a form that is less able to be absorbed by the body.

  2. Step 2

Look for resveratrol pills that have trans-resveratrol listed as the active ingredient. This is the most biologically available form. Other forms will not have the same benefits.

  3. Step 3

Split your resveratrol pills into two doses a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. This seems to be more effective. Any supplement you purchase will give you a recommended dosage. There is not a agreed upon optimum dosage yet. It is still being studied. For now, 125 mg a day is a common dosage for resveratrol pills. Some people take higher doses but it can lead to diarrhea.

Tips & Warnings
  • New information about resveratrol supplements is coming out almost daily. Monitor the internet for updated information on dosages.
  • No know ill effects have been discovered yet that are not reversible by lowering the dosage.
  • Gradually increase your dosage if you decide to take a higher amount of resveratrol pills to avoid side effects such as diarrhea.

on 8/5/2009 Great article, I've never heard of resveratrol. Though I'd ad a warning that if you're on any prescription medications, you should talk to your doctor first and make sure there aren't any interactions. Excellent article though!
