    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Tea Tree Oil
    • Water
    • Aloe Vera (optional)
    • Cotton balls or tissues
      • 1

Purchase tea tree oil at a food co-op or pharmacy. A vial of tea tree oil usually costs between $8 and $10 dollars and will provide a month or more of acne treatments.

      • 2

Dilute the tea tree oil into a 5% acne fighting solution. For example, 1 teaspoon tea tree oil to 9 teaspoons of water. If you have sensitive skin, use ½ teaspoon of tea tree oil to 10 teaspoons of water.

      • 3

Open your pores with steam by taking a hot shower or boil water and trap the steam with a towel over your head. Opening the pores allows the tea tree oil to penetrate deep into your skin and kill the bacteria that causes acne.

Using a tissue or cotton ball, apply the tea tree oil as a skin care astringent on your face.

      • 5

Follow with a glycolic acid product for exfoliation which will give skin clarity. Look for a product that contains 5% glycolic acid, although with time you can work up to a stronger concentration.

    Tips & Warnings

    • While effective, results take longer than with other acne treatments. Be patient and give tea tree oil time. For mild acne, tea tree oil should work within a week, for more severe acne it may take several months.

    • Use aloe vera for ½ the water amount for a skin soothing effect. So a 5% solution would be 1 teaspoon tea tree oil, 3.5 teaspoons aloe vera, 3.5 teaspoons water.

    • Over time, add more tea tree oil for a stronger solution, but be sure to use it for a week before adjusting the solution ratio again.
