Step 1
Planning - You may think you need to hire a wedding planner but why pay for their service when you have friends and family who would love to give a helping hand to you! Just make a list of your preferred colors and let them do the rest! Of course, you don't have to rely on others because they may not know your tastes. In that case, just shop yourself. You'll get the fun of the anticipation of the wedding along with keeping yourself busy so you don't get nervous! If you are not sure what you want, find a friend who recently got married and get some advice!
-
Step 2
Dresses and Tuxes - Ever notice right after prom is over, the dresses are on sale? Look for stores known to have prom dresses and you will find a beautiful white dress waiting for you! They have dresses that look as goregous as the dresses you will find at a Bridal store but for half the price! As for tuxes, if you get the basic suit at a rental store, you can buy a nice white collared shirt and your own shoes for cheaper than they rent.
-
Step 3
Photography- Many couples have friends or family who love taking photos at family events. This person will understand who you want photos of more than a hired photographer that does not know anyone in your family. They will be able to get the intimate, "you-wouldn't-understand-unless-you-were-there" photos that a hired photographer would not.
-
Step 4
Food/Caterers/Cake - Have your wedding right after lunch. Everyone will come full of food and be ready to eat cake at the reception. If you choose to have food, you can deligate certain members of the family to bring certain types of food. The cost will be spread out and everyone will get the pleasure of helping out. As for cake, ask your friends and family if they know anyone who makes cakes professionally and will give a discount. If you cannot find anyone, check at local stores. Large grocery stores usually have great prices!
-
Step 5
Decorations - Look around at dollar stores and party stores. Usually you can find some of the same decorations as the larger places have, but for a much lower price!

on 5/24/2009 I definitely believe we need to go back to more 'affordable weddings/bar mitsvahs' etc. I think the party planner concept is very overdone...people surely can do a lot of it themselves. But that is just one person talking.

on 5/23/2009 I've seen that show "Platinum Weddings" and I wonder, do you really need to spend that much money on a wedding? I'm sure it's up to each couple. Great tips on how to plan an affordable wedding. 5*
