Problems. We all have them and when a problem arises, many go into panic mode. Regardless of how intense or simple the problem is, many of us really never solve the problem simply because we don't follow the correct steps. We have a solution in our head which seldom solves anything when what we really need to do is have a written plan and steps to look at along the way to get the problem solved. By following a few simple tips, hopefully problem solving will become easier for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pen
  • Patience
  1. Step 1
start by identifying and writing down your problem
start by identifying and writing down your problem

DEFINE THE PROBLEM & WRITE IT DOWN. Take time and identify what the "true" problem is. For example, your car may be a problem because it is not running however if it is due to a dead battery, the true problem is the dead battery.

  2. Step 2
brainstorm your possible solutions and list them all
brainstorm your possible solutions and list them all

BRAINSTORM POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. Next make a list of all possible solutions to your problem. If your car battery was dead a couple of your solutions may be to get someone to jump start your car, call AAA or get to the nearest auto center and buy a battery. Sometimes it is your first time experiencing a certain problem so you may have no idea what solutions exist. In the event this is the case, call on family, friends or even research resources via the internet.

  3. Step 3

CHOOSE YOUR SOLUTION. Pick the solution(s) that seem realistic and write down what is needed to get to the solution.

  4. Step 4

IMPLEMENT YOUR PLAN OF ACTION. Now that you have a plan, it does not good if you don't act on it so now you must start performing to accomplish solving your problem.

  5. Step 5

EVALAUTE. Once you have taken the necessary steps to solve your problem, go back and evaluate how you solved it. Did you choose the best solution? Are you still facing the problem? Were you successful? If you solved your problem...GREAT! If not, start back at Step One and brainstorm again. More than likely you will succeed but always remember sometime you have to think outside the box to solve difficult problems.

  6. Step 6

CELEBRATE! Solving problems can be stressful so once you succeed at solving your problem-go celebrate! You deserve it especially after the stress you have probably been facing. Go to dinner, have a weekend get away...do whatever you do to pamper yourself! Problems really can be a thing of the past! Good luck.
