Here is a fun dog bone recipe to try out on your dog! Your dog will love these dog bones and by making them at home you will save money! Humans can eat these dog bones too but you have to have really strong teeth!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast
  1. Step 1

Heat about 1/4 cup of the chicken broth in a cup in the microwave just for a few seconds... just until it's warm. Add the yeast to the broth in the cup and stir until it disolves.

  2. Step 2

Pour the yeast and broth mixture into a bowl then add the remaining broth. Beat the egg and the honey in the cup with a fork then add this to the bowl of broth and stir with the fork until well mixed.

  3. Step 3

Gradually blend in the flour a bit at a time and keep mixing it in. You do not have to be fussy when it comes to measuring the flour. Just keep adding flour until the dough is stiff enough to be kneaded.

  4. Step 4

Plop the dough onto a floured surface and knead it a bit. Then shape the dough into a ball and roll it out until it's about 1/4 inch thick. Sprinkle flour on the dough as needed to keep it from sticking.

  5. Step 5

Now cut the dough with any shape cookie cutter. A bone shape is nice but not necessary. In fact, you do not even need a cookie cutter. You can make round biscuits by using a drinking glass as the cutter. Or you can just cut any shape by hand. After cutting your shapes gather any dough scraps and roll them out and cut more until you use all the dough.

  6. Step 6

Put the dog bones on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake them at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Then turn the bones over and bake an additional 15 minutes or until lightly brown on both sides. Let the dog bones cool overnight to get extra hard. Store the bones in any container or bag in a dry location.

  7. Step 7

You can make the dog bones using beef broth instead of chicken broth. And if you don't have the honey you can use 2 tablespoons of sugar instead.
