Step 1
Determine your Body Mass Index (Use the calculator at http://www.secretsofhealthyeating.com/bmi-calculator.html).
BMI is a statistical estimate of your total body fat based on your weight and height. Although the BMI does not actually measure percentage of body fat, it is a useful tool to judge if you are at healthy weight, based on the ratio of your weight to your height.
If your BMI is over 25, you are probably overweight. However, go to Step 2. -
Step 2
Determine your Waist Hip Ratio (Use the calculator at http://www.secretsofhealthyeating.com/whr-calculator.html).
WHR is the ratio of your waist circumference to your hip circumference, and is a good predictor of potential cardiovascular problems such as heart attack and stroke. In women, the WHR should be less than 0.8, and for men it should be less than 1.0.
If your WHR is higher than this, you are probably overweight. -
Step 3
Look up your Ideal Weight for your height and gender, based on your body frame. (Ideal weight tables can be found at http://www.secretsofhealthyeating.com/ideal-weight.html).
Once you know what your optimal weight range is, go to Step 4. -
Step 4
Look up your Target Calorie Level. (Use the calorie calculator at http://www.secretsofhealthyeating.com/bmr-calorie-calculator.html).
Once you know what your target calorie is, you can adopt a healthy eating plan that helps you keep within your calorie budget for the day. To help you do this, go to Step 5. -
Step 5
Start a Weight Loss Plan to help you achieve life long success with
weight loss. You can download a free weight loss starter pack from http://www.secretsofhealthyeating.com/lose-weight.html.
