Those interested in getting the best quality from their music and movies are probably looking into adding a surround sound system. This article explains how to hook up your system to produce the best quality sound.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • surrond sound stereo, 5 speakers, speaker wire
  1. Step 1

First off you will need to purchase a stero that is capable of producing surround sound. I recommend one that produces sound out of five channels. The five channels are front right speaker, front left speaker, center speaker, rear right speaker and real left speaker.

You can purchase this at any local walmart, hhgregg, best but or online at amazon.com.

  2. Step 2

Once you have the stereo and your five surrond speakers you will need to begin wiring the system. The five speakers should be placed like my image that shows three speakers in the front of your room (left, center right) and two in the back corners of the room

  3. Step 3

When hooking up the wiring you will se that the title on the stereo matches your room setup. The main speaker righ and left hookups are for the front left and right speakers. The one marked center or surround center is for your front center speaker. The two that say surround left aand right or surround rear left and right are for the back left and right speakers

  4. Step 4

Connect the wires as mentioned above so the speaker goes to the correctly identified port in back of the receiver. Once all is hooked up turn on the stereo an put in your favorite movie or song. Make sure the surround feature is turned on the stereo to hear the results. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • When running your speaker wire you can go through the attic or basement to keep the wires out of site in your living room.
  • Movies work much better with surround sound that music does. You might have different settings on your stereo for music. Play around with it some to hear the best results
