Extreme Diaper Rash Can Be Painful For Your Little One

If you have a child that has had extreme diaper rash - you know how painful it can be. The constant contact with urine only worsens the pain and to a little baby, it can feel like pouring salt on a wound. The are some things that you can do to help eliminate your child's diaper rash, but in many cases it may take two to three days to heal. Below are some tips on how to soothe extreme diaper rash...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First clean your baby's bottom with some soft paper towels that are lightly soaked in warm water. Using baby wipes can be painful, especially those that are scented since they usually contain alcohol.

  2. Step 2

Purchase some over the counter Maalox or Mylanta. After using the warm paper towels, let your baby's bottom air dry for a little bit and then dab on some Maalox or Mylanta. This will help soothe the pain of the diaper rash.

  3. Step 3

After the Maalox or Mylanta put on a thick layer of diaper cream such as Desitin. Immediately put a new diaper over this diaper cream.

  4. Step 4

Be sure and change your child's diaper as soon as they wet their diaper. Urine can be acidic and not only burn through the Desitin, but it can really hurt.

  5. Step 5

During bath time add some corn starch or baking soda to mildly warm water. A few tablespoons of either should be fine for an ordinary bath tub.
