Installing a double phone jack can be extremely beneficial, especially if you have multiple people in your home who spend a great deal of time on the phone. A double phone jack allows you to connect two different phones to a single phone jack to one or two lines in your wall. Because there is most likely already a phone line running to your home, installing another phone jack should be a simple task that you can handle.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Telephone jack
  • Drill and bit
  • Screwdrivers
  • Staples
  • Telephone wire
  • Pliers for stripping wires
  1. Step 1

Locate where are you going to install your new double phone jack. Find where the nearest existing phone jack is located. Measure the distance between that existing jack and the location where you will be installing the new jack.

  2. Step 2

Purchase the correct amount of telephone wire based on your measurements. These measurements should include the length along all walls and baseboards.

  3. Step 3

Strip about 3 inches of wire from the side at the existing jack. Drill a small hole by the existing jack so you can run the telephone wire through the walls and to the new jack location.

  4. Step 4

Unscrew the cover of the existing phone jack and connect the telephone wires to the various coordinating colors. The colors should be red, green, black and yellow.

  5. Step 5

Strip the same amount of wire, about 3 inches, at the other end, by the new jack. Connect the wires just like you did to the existing jack. Screw the new jack into the wall.

  6. Step 6

Secure the telephone wire by stapling it to the baseboards or by using a method that would look the best in your home. Once your phone line is secured, test the new jack to make sure it works.
