Measuring a patio screen door aids in having confidence when replacing it. You can then go to a home improvement store and purchase a brand new one knowing it will fit in the designated space. Since it isn't practical to take the whole door into the store, you need to measure height and width. Replacing the patio screen door once a year will keep your patio in tiptop shape. In addition, any tears or rips in the screen mesh can cause insects to enter the home.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the patio screen door from the enclosure. Some doors may have screws attaching the door to the frame. Others could have a slit in the metal to insert the screen door like window screens. Remove all the screws or use a flat-head screwdriver to pop the screen out of the metal piece by gently inserting the screwdriver between the metal frame and the screen door. Push the flat head back to pop the door out.

  2. Step 2

Lay the screen door flat on concrete or wood decking. Any flat surface is appropriate.

  3. Step 3

Use your measuring tape to measure the length of the patio screen door. Start at the top left side and string the tape across to the right side. Be sure that there are no dents or bending in the metal frame for an accurate measurement. Write the number down.

  4. Step 4

Start at the top of the door. Use your measuring tape and pull down. Measure the screen door from top to the bottom. Again, be aware of any indentations that may make a false measurement. Write down the height of the patio screen door.
