Instructions

    • 1

Take a closer look at the shower head. The water pressure could be low, if the openings on the shower head are clogged with mildew and soap scum. This would restrict the strong flow of water from entering your shower.

    • 2

Spray some Clorox cleanup on the face of the showerhead and let it set for the recommended time. Then, scrub it with a bristled brush until the openings are clear of debris. Turn on the shower and see if the water pressure has increased. If it is still not strong, then continue on to step 3.

    • 3

Grab a crescent wrench to loosen the shower head from the water pipe. (Vise grips will work just as well). Remember to turn counterclockwise when loosening. After a few turns of the wrench, you should be able to finish loosening the shower head with your hand and remove it from the pipe.

There should be a small filter at the top of the shower head. Check it for debris that may be restricting the water flow. Use the brush to clean off any debris or particles that might be trapped in the filter. Replace the shower head on the pipe and test the shower once again. This should fix the problem, if not you may need a new shower head.

Sometimes certain water lines in a home just have low water pressure. You can purchase a new shower head from your local hardware store for around $20. Check out Lowes or Home Depot, they have a large selection. There are many to choose from, just make sure the one you choose states that it is a high pressure shower head or that it will increase the water pressure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of using a brush to clean the shower head filter, an old toothbrush might be more manageable.

  • If the water pressure in your home is low, these steps may not help.
