The Senior Little League World Series is currently held in Bangor, Maine, home of author Stephen King. Since 2002, baseball players aged 15-16 have come from around the world to play the best of the best.

The series is a fun filled event for the players, coaches, family members, and spectators. With the ability to play on a high quality field built in large part due to the generosity of Stephen and Tabitha King, the week long Senior Little League World Series is a memorable event that takes place each August.

For those who follow the series and choose to be in attendance; here's how to get the most out of your experience.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Book your hotel

    Book your hotel

Book your hotel when you find out if the team you're rooting for is going to be there. Though many playoffs end right before the Senior Little League World Series begins; there will be no shortage of accommodations. However, if you wish to stay near the stadium, you'll need to book as soon as you know you're coming.

Baseball players, team personnel, and families, are housed in specific accommodations for the duration of the series and players and coaches are bussed for free to Mansfield Stadium.

Prepare to do some shopping if you haven't checked the weather for the Bangor, Me. area in August ! In sunny weather, highs can be in the 90's during the day and nights can get down into the 50's. Layers of clothing are always the best option to be prepared for Maine weather in late summer.

  3. Step 3
    See the sights around town

Play tourist while you're here. The baseball teams each get one entire day off from tournament play. They often use this time to take sight seeing excursions. When the team you support has downtime, consider taking in the sights yourself.

Bar Harbor, in Acadia National Park, is always a popular attraction. With ocean access, a scenic drive to Cadillac Mountain, and a colorful tourist town; there's plenty to do and see ! Be sure to enjoy fresh caught Maine lobster while you're there.

  4. Step 4
    Have fun !

Stay close to the baseball stadium to entertain kids and teens during game time. With a playground, swimming pool and large slide; young children are easy to keep entertained during the warm late summer days in Bangor. For teens, the nearby pool and slide are a hit as are the tennis courts and basketball court.

  5. Step 5
    Enjoy local cuisine

Eat, eat, eat ! The staff that runs the Senior Little League World Series spares nothing to feed the players and coaches. But for the rest of those in attendance, you'll also want to get the flavor of Maine while you're here. Try the red hot dogs for something simple, a lobster roll, blueberry pancakes or pie, or if you want to stick with what you know: pizza is available anywhere in the city.

  6. Step 6
Get a glimpse of the home of the King of Horror

Ask questions of the locals. Maine people are very helpful and will assist you in finding Bar Harbor or other tourist hot spots, your hotel, restaurants, the local casino- Hollywood Slots, the mall, or even a drive by view of Stephen King's home located a few streets away from the ballpark.

Mansfield Stadium staff is plentiful and is here to help you in any way they can to make your World Series stay in Bangor as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to visit the souvenir tent to pick up hats, jerseys, pins and other memorabilia to remember your stay in Bangor, Maine for the Senior League World Series.
  • Don't pronounce Bangor as "Bang-gah" as it so often is. "Bang-gor" is the proper pronunciation. A local will surely set you straight ! :-)
