Do you have rubber backed rugs that fall apart after multiple times in the washer? If so then seal them with ordinary waterproof sealant (caulk). This is an easy and inexpensive way to expand the life of your rug.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • waterproof sealant (caulk)
  • brush or putty knife
  • rubber backed rug
  1. Step 1

Before using a new rubber backed rug turn it over and seal the back with an ordinary waterproof sealant (caulk).

  2. Step 2

Using a brush or putty knife spread the sealant on the back of the rug until the entire surface has been covered. Don't forget to get the edges and corners.

  3. Step 3

Let the sealant air dry. Drying time will depend on the thickness of the application.

  4. Step 4

After air drying, the rubber backing of the rug will be waterproofed and will prevent the rug from falling apart when washed. Remember to wash in COLD water only and on a gentle cycle. Never dry in a dryer.

  5. Step 5

Because the sealant is rubber based the grip of the rug will not be hindered.

Tips & Warnings
