Ever wanted to vacation in Maine? Well Acadia National Park is a must if visiting here. This article will show you why and how to get the most out of this spectacular park.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shoes for rugged terrain
  • Layers of clothing
  • Bugspray and Sunblock
  • backpack
  • water
  • camera
  • lots of time
  1. Step 1

    When you first get there you have to pay a small entrance fee at one of the several visitor contact centers. From there you can talk to the many park rangers that will answer your questions and help you plan your visit. The park is open all year but it is recommended to visit during summer months for the most enjoyment.

    Acadia national park is awesome place for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Here are just a few of the things you can do at the park. You can go bicycling, boating, birdwatching,camping,climbing,fishing,hiking,horseback riding,scenic driving,sightseeing,swimming and that's just to name a few. The biggest thing is to give yourself at least a day or two at the park to really enjoy it and get the whole experience.

    When you get hungry the park has a restaurant called the Jordan pond house. They operate from mid may to late October. Be careful to bring some additional food because this is the only restaurant in the park. You can eat inside or out here and there food is pretty good. There is no lodging in the park other than campgrounds but the surrounding towns have many accommodations made for park visitors.

    It fairly easy to get around the park. You can drive and there is a fare free coach bus system. The bus system is excellent because it also goes to nearby hotels making travel the least of your concerns.

    How to get to Acadia National Park. By car, From Boston take I-95 north to Augusta, Maine, then Route 3 east to Ellsworth and on to Mount Desert Island plane, The national airlines serve Bangor international airport. Bangor is a little over one hour north of the park. Boston's logan airport lands at Hancock county airport which is approximately ten miles away from the park.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you bring everything you need to spend the day outdoors.
  • Make sure you visit thunder hole
  • Talk to the rangers there they are a tremendous resource for first timers.
  • Make sure to give yourself lots of time at least 1 to 2 days at the park.
  • Be careful with any outdoor activity especially while climbing Cadillac mountain.
