Change the Default Font in Microsoft Word

When I use Microsoft Word I prefer to use the font Arial. I think it is a cleaner font and nicer to look at the normal "Times New Roman". When you run Word the default font is set to Times New Roman, Regular, with a font size of 12. Did you know you can make the defauly font anything that you would like? Well you can and here is how you do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • MS Word
  1. Step 1

Launch Microsoft Word and open a new, blank document.

  2. Step 2

From the main menu at the top select "Format" and then on the submenu that appears select "Font" as circled in red in the picture associated with this step.

  3. Step 3

The "Font" window will appear. It is here on this window where you will change your default font. Choose the name of your font in the listbox that is labeled "Font". Notice how I chose "Arial". Then select the font style, normally this is kept to regular, although you can make it bold, italicized etc. Then choose a font size. I chose 12, but again you can choose any size that you wish. Once you have the font right where you want it click the "Default" button.

  4. Step 4

A message box will appear asking you if you want to change your default font to the settings you have just chosen. Click "Yes" if you want to change it, click "No" if you do not want to change it. That's it. You are done. From now on when you open create a new word document your default font will be what you set it to if you clicked on "yes" on the message box as shown in the picture associated with this step.
