Tongue rings are a fun adornment for the mouth, but it is very easy for the piercing to get infected. There are many ways to sterilize tongue rings at home. The important thing is just to remember to do it!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Any of the following:
  • Alcohol
  • Peroxide
  • Boiling water
  • Salt water
  • or mouthwash
  1. Step 1

You don't have to do all of these. Choose the best one for you!

  2. Step 2

Boil enough water to fill a coffee mug. Place the tongue ring in the bottom of the cup and pour the boiling water over it. Let it sit for a few minutes before removing.

  3. Step 3

Submerge the tongue ring in a small cup of rubbing alcohol or peroxide. (Just so you know, I've seen conflicting reports on this but know lots of people who use this method). Rinse before wearing.

  4. Step 4

Soak the tongue ring in salt water. Remember, saltwater is a good gargle to clean out the mouth and throat so it should kill bacteria on a tongue ring.

  5. Step 5

Finally, try soaking the tongue ring in mouthwash. Remember, the same bacteria on the tongue ring are in your mouth. If mouthwash kills germs in your mouth, it should take care of the ones on the tongue ring.
