Reduce your Energy Bill
Reduce your Energy Bill

Reducing your energy consumption is not only good for the environment, but it reduces the strain on your pocketbook as well. Give the earth and your wallet a break with these simple adjustments.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

SWITCH TO ENGERY STAR APPLIANCES. While this may be an investment at first, it will save you tons of cash in the long run.

  2. Step 2

CHANGE YOUR LIGHT BULBS. Compact fluorescent light bulbs last much longer than your traditional bulb and use much less energy.

  3. Step 3

UNPLUG ANYTHING NOT IN USE. This step goes far beyond what you would traditionally think. Even your TV, coffee maker, toaster oven, cell phone charger, etc. suck up energy when they aren't being used. Stop the vampire energy usage!

  4. Step 4

MAKE YOUR DRYER MORE EFFICIENT. Clean the lint trap before every load and add tennis balls to assist with the drying process. Consider hanging your clothing outside to dry the old fashioned way.

  5. Step 5

CLEAN YOUR REFRIGERATOR COILS. Pull your fridge out from the wall, give the coils a good vacuum and wipe out with a damp cloth.

  6. Step 6

GO BACK TO AN OLD-FASHIONED PHONE IN YOUR HOME. Remember that phone you spent hours and hours chatting on back in Jr. High? Dig it out of the garage and plug it into the phone jack. Those cordless phones suck up extra energy. This one can be used even when there is a power outage.

  7. Step 7

INSTALL A CEILING FAN. It will be much more energy efficient than your air conditioner.
