How to Make a Prize Ribbon
Prize ribbons are a great way to let kids know that they are doing a good job or that you appreciate their hard work at home, at school or in sports. Making a special prize ribbon yourself makes your child aware that you really are pleased with their effort, and it can be a fun project for the two of you to do together. Prize ribbons are a wonderful way for you or your child to let someone special know you care.

1
Make the center of your prize ribbon. Cut two circles the same size out of the cardboard, then cut a larger circle out of the satin material. Stretch the satin material over the cardboard so that it is entirely smooth on one side. Use the tacky craft glue to secure the excess ribbon to the back of the cardboard circle. This will make a shiny center for your prize ribbon. Keep the second cardboard circle for later.

2
Make a frilly backer for your satin center. Cut a piece of wide ribbon that is about two feet long. Glue the end of the ribbon to the back of the cardboard. Then make a series of folds in the ribbon so that the bent ends of the fold stick out from behind the center to make a frame for the circle. Each time you make another fold, glue the new fold that is behind the cardboard to the cardboard itself. Be liberal with the glue because no one will be able to see this part anyway.

3
Glue the second cardboard circle over the frilly backer. Use a lot of glue, and hold it in place firmly until it dries completely. This will hold the frills in place.

4
Glue on some tails. Cut two pieces of thick ribbon at least 6 inches long. Glue them to the back of the cardboard circle so that they hang down below the circle. If you like, notch the ends with the scissors.

5
Decorate your prize ribbon with the puff paint pens. You can write a name on the middle or "#1" on the satin circle. You can also write on the tails if you like.
