Add the instant coffee to the hot water and stir until combined. You can add more or less coffee depending on your hair color. Those with black hair might want a darker hue while those with lighter hair color want a lighter hue that doesn't look odd in their hair.

Place the gelatin into the coffee and water mixture and stir rapidly. The gelatin needs warm water to completely dissolve. Continue stirring until the gelatin is incorporated and dissolved.

Cover the jar with a piece of cheesecloth and slowly pour the mixture over it. This removes any chunks or pieces of gelatin that didn't dissolve. It also removes any coffee grounds left in the bottom of the cup.

Screw the lid onto the jar and gives it a good shake just to ensure that everything is mixed together. It will probably look fairly thin, but it will firm up later.

Store the jar in the refrigerator with the lid on. Within a few hours the gel will come together and have a nice, thick consistency. When you're not using it, keep the coffee hair gel in the refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings
When you're adding the coffee, remember that the more you add, the more the hair gel will smell like coffee. Keep that in mind when you're using it on your hair.
Don't let the hair gel mixture sit out in the warm air for too long. This causes the ingredients to separate and you might need to make a fresh batch.
