How to Install a 2GB RAM Chip in a Laptop
When you purchase a laptop, it only comes with so much memory. Many times a machine is configured to save money and the RAM is where money is saved. One of the most cost-conscious ways to upgrade a computer and increase the computer's speed is to upgrade the memory. While a laptop may appear a bit more difficult than a PC and appear more intimidating, upgrading the RAM in a laptop is actually quite easy and can be completed in just a few minutes.

1
Turn the laptop off, unplug the machine and flip the machine over so you are looking at the back or bottom of the laptop computer.
-
2
Remove the battery from the laptop. On most machines, the battery will slide out to the side, sometimes while holding a latch or release button. Be sure the battery is removed so that there is no chance of accidental power discharge while you are working with the insides of the computer.

Remove the cover for the memory. Most laptops will have this panel labeled. It may say "memory" or just "M." It will nearly always be held in place with two to four screws.

Slide the old RAM chip out of place. It will often require you to gently lift one side of the chip and pull it away from the computer. Note the direction and alignment of the chip so that you can place the new one in with the same orientation.

5
Gently slide the new RAM chip into the place of the old one. Be sure you press gently and slide it in the same way the old chip came out.
