Straighten Poofy Hair

Poofy, puffy, fluffy, frizzy hair is often impossible to control and therefore quite annoying. Poofy hair is sometimes confused with very curly hair, but the two are not the same. Naturally straight hair can also be poofy, while naturally curly hair can be sleek. Some people's hair is simply frizzy, which accounts for the poofiness that can plague anyone with straight, wavy or curly hair. With a bit of patience and a few frizz-fighting products, you can have the straight and sleek hair you've always dreamed of.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Antifrizz conditioner
  • Blow-dryer with diffuser
  • Straightening iron
  • Hair shine mist
  1. Step 1

Apply an antifrizz deep conditioner after shampooing to tame your poofy hair, making it more manageable and softening the coarseness of your locks. Try Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Deep Conditioner with natural plant extracts to control frizz. Leave in hair for 3 minutes; then rinse out.

  2. Step 2

Comb your wet hair and let it air-dry. Drying poofy hair with a blow-dryer can actually make it even more frizzy and unmanageable. Be patient and allow it to dry naturally, and you'll be rewarded with easier-to-style hair later.

  3. Step 3

Wait till hair is completely dry, and then separate it into three or four sections and clip it to hold it in place. Use a round-bristled hairbrush and blow-dryer to straighten the sections one at a time. Attach a diffuser to the blow-dryer to focus the hot air directly onto the hair; this makes it much easier to style and straighten poofy hair.

  4. Step 4

Separate the blown-out hair into three sections. Go over each section with a ceramic straightening iron. Starting from as close to the scalp as possible, clamp the iron snugly over a 1-inch strand of hair and slowly lower it down to the ends, counting about 8 seconds as you lower for each strand. It's important to straighten each strand slowly for best depoofing results. Going over your hair with a straightening iron quickly won't give you the type of stick-straight hair you really desire.

  5. Step 5

Spray your hair with a shine-inducing mist to tame flyaways and frizz, lock in your straightened style and make hair glisten. A shining mist will also prevent humidity from making your straight hair poofy again. Try John Frieda's Frizz Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to be patient during the straightening process; rushing it won't get you the results you're looking for. Instead of a shine mist, use two to three drops of olive oil or almond oil to give your hair shine.
