How to Buy Army Clothes
Although the Army usually issues clothing to its recently enlisted soldiers, you may need to purchase new clothes once your old ones wear out. Army clothing can be found on Army bases, at military surplus stores and pawn shops, and even online. At these places, you can purchase your ACU (Army Combat Uniform), physical training clothing, formal Class A uniform, and miscellaneous items like boots and socks. You will want to speak to your noncommissioned officer to find out what specific types of clothing you need to buy. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Purchase Army clothing on your base. Most Army posts have a "Clothing and Sales" store, which offers a wide selection of Army clothes. You will find the bulk of your clothing needs at "Clothing and Sales," including your Class A uniform, which you can have tailored in-store. Check on a base map or ask your NCO where to find the closest store.

Head to a military surplus store. Military surplus stores also provide a variety of Army clothing. Sometimes you can find good deals at these places, too. Check in your local phone book or search on the internet for military surplus stores in your area. You may want to call ahead to see if a store has a certain item in stock that you need.

Visit a pawn shop. Pawn shops in military towns often have a ready supply of old ACUs and other Army clothing. But be forewarned: the selection of clothes at a pawn shop can be limited, and you may need to visit a few of them to find the right clothing in your size. Look in your local phone book or check online to find pawn shops in your area. You may want to ask other soldiers for their recommendations.

Tips & Warnings
The Army provides a small clothing allowance for enlisted soldiers every year. Officers do not receive this stipend. You may want to visit different stores to compare prices before making your purchases. Make sure to buy the proper name tapes and unit patches for your ACUs. You will also need to purchase the correct insignias and badges for your Class A uniform.
