Vinyl floor tiles

Vinyl floor tiles are one of the most inexpensive flooring options available. They can be purchased in a variety of colors and designs as well. On top of this, they are very simple to install, especially ones that come in the "peel and stick" variety, which come with adhesive backing for easy install. Yet another plus of vinyl floor tiles is that you are able to install them directly over any previous flooring, though it is best to use as level a surface as possible. Cutting your vinyl floor tiles is also very simple, as it only requires a standard utility knife. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Cutting Straight Lines

    • 1

Lay your vinyl floor tile on a flat surface. Because you will be using a sharp blade, it is best to work on a surface that you do not mind getting scratched or cut.

    • 2

Measure the cut you would like to make. To make a straight line, position a carpenter's square onto your tile, flush with one edge of your tile square. Trace your line using a pencil or pen.

    • 3

Use a razor blade or a sharp utility knife to make your cut. Simply follow your traced line, using your carpenter's square as a reference.

    Cutting Irregular Shapes

    • 4

Trace out the shape you need to create. If you are making an irregular cut to fit against something like a plumbing pipe, you may want to use a cardboard template before cutting your tiles.

    • 5

Position your cardboard template onto your vinyl floor tile and trace with a pen or pencil.

    • 6

Cut out your shape using a utility knife or razor blade if possible. You can also use aviation or tin snips for more intricate cuts.
