Persistence is key to training a dog properly and under extreme circumstances, non-verbal methods of training must be used. Putting a shock or bark training collar on dogs who insistently bark for no reason, with the proper training, should cause the behavior to subside. The most important factor in using a shock collar is the animal's health and safety.

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust the setting on the shock collar to the specified power level for the weight and size of the dog. If the power on the collar is to high for the dog, the device could seriously harm it.

    • 2

Press the button on the remote control when the dog beings to bark. When pressing the button, also use a verbal command to represent the barking at that time is inappropriate.

    • 3

Readjust the power level on the shock collar if the first shock did not stop the dog from barking. Do not repeatedly press the button, rather, hold it down for no more than 5 seconds at a time, while using the verbal command.

    • 4

Switch between using only the verbal command and with the accompanied shock collar after a few weeks of consistent use.

    • 5

Provide a treat for the dog if it stops barking by using the verbal command without the use of the shock collar.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use the shock collar on dogs while they are wet, as it can inadvertently increase the power level.

  • If a dog is barking to get your attention, do not set the shock collar off. Under no circumstance should the shock collar be used just to stop a dog from barking altogether.
