1
Assess the surface you wish to apply the stucco to. If you are applying to concrete, you need to apply a concrete bonding agent to the surface and allow to dry before you begin to apply the stucco. If you are applying to wood, you need to first staple roofing felt to the entire surface, and then staple metal netting on top of the felt to ready your surface.

2
Begin applying the stucco in a small patch of about 3x3 feet. Apply a scratch coat for the exterior stucco to adhere to. You don't need it to be perfect; however, if you are using metal netting, be sure to push the stucco through the netting for a secure hold. The stucco should be at least 1/2 inch thick.

3
Using a rake, draw lines through the still slightly wet stucco, about 1/8 inch thick. This allows for air pockets for the final, decorative stucco to adhere to.
-
4
Leave the scratch coat for 48 hours to dry.
-
5
Begin to apply the finish coat of stucco after 48 hours. Trowel it on at least 1/2 inch thick. You can add texture if you wish, by dragging the trowel in different directions and allowing to be slightly uneven (see above picture).

6
Allow the finish coat to dry for 48 hours.
