How to Improve Business Sales

Improve your business sales in no time at all.

In good and bad economies, you're bound to have periods where sales slump. If you want them to pick back up, get back to work. Research your current methods and make a plan to move forward. Discuss your ideas with your sales staff and all those who interact with your customers. When everyone is on the same page, you improve business sales.

1. Generate repeat business from your current customers. You've already gained the trust of those who have bought from you in the past, so it becomes easier to sell more products to them. Collect the email and physical addresses of people who buy from you, then send out periodic mailings to let them know about an upcoming sale. Increase sales to the people who are already in your store. For example, as the customer gets to the register, the sales staff could ask if they're interested in a special deal on socks.

2. Motivate your sales team with special prizes. When your sales staff has an incentive, they are more likely to work harder. Have them compete against each other in a contest where only the top sales reps get prizes, or have them compete on an individual basis, where all reps who meet a quota get the prize.

3. Give your customers what they want. Ask customers to fill out a survey about their needs. Use these answers to create your new product lines.

4. Try different methods of improving sales. Some customers respond quickly when you have a sale, while others prefer businesses that offer everyday low prices. Track which methods improve sales the most, and use the methods that are most effective.

5. Understand your unique selling point. Determine what sets your company apart from others in the same line of business. Perhaps you offer lower prices, faster turnaround or higher quality. Whatever it is, highlight this in your advertising campaigns.
