How to Identify Antibiotic Pills

Antibiotics are important medications a doctor may prescribe to treat infections such as ear infections, pneumonia, and bronchitis. These medications must be taken completely (until gone), and as directed, to achieve relief. When medications are mixed, or specific information is misplaced, such as packaging or instructions, there are easy ways to identify the specifics needed for safe dosing.

Instructions

    • 1

Use an online identification tool for uncovering the uses of unfamiliar antibiotic pills. (See "Resources" below.)

    • 2

Enter the information in the specified boxes. Provide the imprint, color, shape, brand, and all other information that could be used to identify the medication.

    • 3

Press the "Search" button and review the results.

    • 4

Use a book reference. Books such as the Physician's Desk Reference can be checked out at the library.

    • 5

Ask a pharmacist, nurse, or doctor. All of these professionals will have knowledge and reference materials to identify antibiotics, and other unknown medications.

Tips & Warnings
