Many cribs come with pads tied to the inside of the crib. These prevent infants from getting caught between the slats of the crib, but once the baby learns how to pull himself to a standing position, the crib bumpers could be used by your child as a foothold. This might result in your child successfully pulling himself out of his crib, after which he could become seriously injured in the fall to the ground. By removing the crib bumpers, you can prevent this from happening.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the places where the crib bumpers are tied onto the crib rails.

  2. Step 2

Try to untie the knots with your fingers.

  3. Step 3

If you cannot untie the knots, cut the ties holding the crib bumper to the crib with a pair of scissors.

  4. Step 4

Discard the crib bumper pads, or use them as cushions for hard wooden chairs.
