Decorate your baby nursery in shabby chic style with classic cast iron furniture and soft pastel accents. Shabby chic is a comfortable and relaxed style of decorating with a predominantly white color scheme and a vintage inspired feel to the room. You can find a variety of classic cast iron furniture and chenille linens available at online retailers. Add simple handmade touches for a baby nursery that feels warm and inviting.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paint and related supplies
  • White cast iron crib
  • Vintage-inspired chenille linens
  • Mobile
  • Changing table
  • Template and acrylic paints
  1. Step 1

Paint the walls a soft yellow, green or blue as a background to the white furniture and the colorful vintage-style linens.

  2. Step 2

Select a white cast iron crib in a classic poster bed or arched style. Add chenille decorated linens in soft pastel colors or crisp white linens with a multi-colored chenille bumper pad. Colorful stuffed animals and a whimsical mobile with butterflies and hummingbirds complement the softness of the fabrics while contrasting with the white cast iron crib.

  3. Step 3

Add a simple white wood changing table on another wall with linens that complement the bedding, but do not match. Paint tiny butterflies and hummingbirds on the front of the drawers or the trim on the shelves to add a bit of color and tie in the mobile. You can find templates and stencils along with acrylic paint at your local craft store to complete this project.

  4. Step 4

Place a white cast iron daybed for nights when you keep your baby company as she sleeps. Continue with the vintage chenille theme for the linens, but they should not match anything else in the room.

  5. Step 5

Hang a small handmade quilt behind a white rocking chair to complete the shabby chic baby nursery. Select a quilt with the soft colors already in the room and a round backed rocker with thin spindles like your grandmother used to have.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add a white wrought-iron mirror and a fluffy white rug to the nursery.
  • Make sure the crib meets all necessary safety requirements.
