    Things You'll Need

    • Small screwdriver
      • 1

Remove the cover on your transmitter using the small screwdriver. If there are small numbered switches inside, proceed to step 2. If not, skip to step 4.

      • 2

Your device will have either 9 or 12 switches, as will your opener. (Models are not interchangeable.) Set the switches in the transmitter by moving the switches to either the on or off position.

      • 3

Remove the cover to your opener and set the small switches in the opener to match the ones you set in the transmitter. Your unit is now programed and ready for use.

      • 4

On newer units without the small switches, the code is automatically changed each time you use the device. There are 4.5 billion possible combinations.

      • 5

To clear all codes from your unit, press and hold the "learn" button on your opener until the small light stops blinking.

      • 6

To reprogram the transmitters, briefly press down the "learn" button. The small Genie light should come on and either flash or remain on for 30 seconds. While this light is on, press the button on your transmitter until the opener activates. The transmitter is now programed.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Hold the transmitter at least 2 feet away from the unit while reprogramming.

    • Keep your car doors locked when your car is outside of the garage to prevent anyone from using the opener to access your home.
